How to Set Up Your Whiteboard

July 23, 2019 Comments : 4

As summer winds down, many of us are starting to plan for back to school and dreaming up what we want our classrooms to look like. (No? Just me? Okay.) In the next few blog posts, I will walk you through parts of my room. If you are like first year me and have noRead More

How to Enjoy a Guilt Free Teacher Summer

July 13, 2019 Leave a Comment

Until this past week, I’ve been enjoying a lot of structured relaxation. As soon as school let out in June, Fred and I headed to Seattle for my sister’s graduation from the University of Washington. From there, we went on a 10-day trip to Maui and Oahu. Every day in Hawaii, Fred planned a packedRead More

How I Stocked My Classroom For Free

July 3, 2019 Leave a Comment

This post from my friend Tiff @tiffinthemiddle SCREAMED to me and I immediately reposted it to my instagram story with a million clapping hands surrounding it. Every year, before school starts, Fred will always ask, “How much did you spend this year?” and I’ll either reply, “I lost the receipts” or “$100 something *casual shrug*”Read More

“Are You Chinese?” My Journey as an Asian American Educator

May 21, 2019 Comments : 2

My first teaching job straight out of undergrad was teaching 6th grade math in New York at a school located in Washington Heights. A majority of my students identified as Dominican and a few identified as black; we had no students who identified as white or Asian. At my school, I was the only AsianRead More

A doctor and a teacher walked into quarantine and A doctor and a teacher walked into quarantine and came out vaccinated!

On the day vaccines came out in the US, I remember listening to The Daily’s podcast. I hadn’t shed tears during quarantine but listening to their recap of the pandemic and the hope on the horizon… I felt a ✨HUGE✨ sign of relief I didn’t even realize I was holding in and felt the tears start rolling in.

Today I am thankful to have received my first dose of the vaccine. Thank you to all the scientists who worked to help make this vaccine a reality! And to my students, I can’t wait to teach you all in person soon! 💕

Are you planning to get the vaccine? Let me know!
New things I’ve tried this week: ✅ Quick Check New things I’ve tried this week:
✅ Quick Check in notebooks. Students submit their answers in Google Forms before we go over the answers.
✅ Splitting my iPad screen with a timer when students are working.
✅ Animated slides as practice with students responding in the chat waterfall style.

Distance learning has been something else but last night I had a moment of ✨gratitude✨ for this experience. I’m normally a “here’s our routine…let’s go” type of teacher and this year has really pushed me to do more. I love that I’m ALWAYS learning and able to try new things in my virtual classroom. Don’t get me wrong, this year is not at all ideal. However I am thankful for the growth I’ve felt this year navigating this online world along side all of you! 💕

What is something new you’ve tried this week?
This weekend, after posting my desk tour someone a This weekend, after posting my desk tour someone asked what I used my large screen for. So I thought I’d share a GLIMPSE of what it looks like for one of my classes towards the end of the day. TBH it really depends on what I’m feeling. For the most part its just extra real estate for me to do things off screen while teaching… like attendance or pulling up links. I usually put my screen share to my larger monitor so that I still have freedom to work on my laptop and it doesn’t take up the entire screen like it does here.

Distance learning is truly no joke but having this second monitor has really made it so much more doable. If you still need a second monitor, check out @twoscreensforteachers to request a free monitor!

What do you all use your second screen for?
