When I started virtual teaching in August, my colleague shared this quote with me after frustrating few days. “Focus on how to use the technology to fit your pedagogy rather than how to change your pedagogy to fit the technology.” Tomohiro Hoshi, Ph.D. Head of School, Stanford Online High School This has really helped meRead More

How I Prepare for a Teaching Interview

July 17, 2020 Leave a Comment

My first job interview was as a high school lifeguard/swim instructor at my local club. Luckily I was highly recommended by my swim coach because my interview skills were non existent. Since then I’ve learned a lot about interviewing and now have a toolbox of steps I always take before I head off to aRead More

July 12, 2020 Leave a Comment

As many of you know Fred and I have spent the last month getting adjusted to our new home in California. When we were back in Boston we bought a majority of our large furniture and now I’m working on the smaller decor items. As most millennials, I’ve been obsessed with the white/marble/gold theme. TheseRead More

Since I was young, the anticipation of summer break was always so strong. Quick and Easy End Of Year Student Gift

May 28, 2020 Leave a Comment

I love giving gifts but at the end of the year I’m usually so overwhelmed and student gifts are the last thing on my mind. Last year, I *surprisingly* had a free moment and put together these quick and easy personalized stencil bookmarks for my students. Materials that I used: Transparent Color Light Filters  RibbonRead More

Three Reasons Why Life is Good® as a Teacher

November 29, 2019 Leave a Comment

My math coach, Tricia, always talks about moments. She reminds me constantly to remember the moments, because not every day of teaching will feel like a win. To help me remember the moments, she always starts our coaching meetings by asking me to share a highlight of my week. We frequently sit in silence forRead More

Back to School MUST HAVES

August 23, 2019 Leave a Comment

Welcome to August where back to school is on EVERYONE’S mind. In a recent blog post I talked about ways to get your classroom funded for free! However I had people ask, “What do you do if the items you want are in stores and not online?” There are a few websites that allow forRead More

How to Establish Strong Routines to Increase Student Voice

July 30, 2019 Leave a Comment

After an observation my first year teaching, my principal told me, “I noticed you said ‘shh’ a lot.” Management issues aside, this piece of feedback was very indicative of my (then) idea of an ideal classroom. Over the years, I’ve learned to push the value of student voices in my classroom and added some newRead More

I don’t believe it but sometimes it’s just what I need to hear after a long day 🥰 Today, as the Sunday Scaries start settling in post spring break.. We’re homeowners 🏡! I’ve been pretty quiet We’re homeowners 🏡! I’ve been pretty quiet this week on the gram because Fred and I decided to officially call Southern California our home! We purchased our first house and have been busy moving and settling into our new place. We are so excited to have more space for Kobe and Chloe to grow in. They are still learning to navigate the stairs <swipe to watch> but are adjusting quick! If you’re ever in the area come visit! 🤗💕 #teachersofinstagram
#ad My time as a virtual teacher is coming to a cl #ad My time as a virtual teacher is coming to a close and it doesn’t feel right to end it without a HUGE shoutout to the distance learning MVP… my @autonomousdotai standing desk! I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time at my desk this year. It’s been the space where I’ve built a virtual community with my students and taught concepts like graphing and solving equations. I loved being able to stand and stretch during class on days I felt exhausted but still had two classes to go. If you’re looking for a standing desk, click the link in my bio and use code MATHYI08 at checkout for 8% off. #worksmarter #autonomoussetup #workfromhome

On a side note, I am thankful for past me who hustled hard and prepped for current me. Earlier this year I taught ratios to one of my classes and I was able to reuse my presentation today for notes and practice! Swipe to see what it looks like!

What is your school schedule currently like? Are you still virtual or have you been in person? Let me know!
